I ordered this for my grandson for his birthday, and he destroyed the remote within the first day. We contacted the company and asked if we could purchase just the remote, and they sent us not only a new remote, but an entire new nightlight, free of charge! We will definitely be repeat customers. The nightlight itself works great, and my grandson loves it. It does work without the remote, but you lose several nice features if you don't have the remote, like the timer and the ability to control the flash pattern and speed that it changes.
