I was pleasantly surprised to plug this one in and hear how quiet it is. When I first unboxed this fountain, I disassembled every piece so I could wash it. I thought it was a little tricky to get back together at first but once I got it, I realized it was pretty obvious. It comes with a filter and they sell extra filters separately from this seller. Once I got it all back together, I plugged it in and it started right up. The water doesn't fall very far into the bowl so it doesn't splash much. The motor is really very quiet so that's a plus. It has an LED light that lights up but the bulb is very tiny so it's not blinding. It would make a really great nightlight in the kitchen, which is where we're putting ours. The biggest stamp of approval, of course, comes from the cats who sniffed it a bit and seemed unsure at first. But we're a couple days in now and they're drinking out of it just fine. I just like having water that cycles through a filter and is fresh all the time. The bowl is big enough that I don't need to refill it super often but small enough that they're frequently getting fresh water. The instructions say to clean the motor every two weeks and that may be possible to stretch longer by using bottled or already filtered water, I'm not sure. When assembled, the water pump did not work. I tried to disassemble the water pump and fix it, and was able to arrange it in a particular non-standard way so that the water was able to flow. However, the water flow was quite loud and would only last for about 20-30 minutes until the pump would jam and discontinue flow. If there is a way to obtain a refund or contact the Seller, that would be preferable.
