I had hoped they would be the Chaucer plays but with modernized and understandable English. Unfortunately, they are modern stories that claim to be based on the Chaucer tales. Frankly, I found it difficult to apprehend much similarity, let alone any basis in the original tales. Perhaps it is because I read the tales many years ago--I'm not sure. However, let this be a warning: if you hunger for Chaucer tales, and if you are anything like me, you will not be satisfied with these. One the good side (hence the two stars): the stories are pretty good for what they are, and Keeley Hawes is wonderful, of course.
