I feel protected and comfortable. I had previously ordered another brand of padded jacket. It fit extremely tight. Most of the riding clothes on Amazon seem to be unisex so are not made for thick or muscular guys. With the prior jacket experience, I ordered 2 sizes up. Normally I wear an XL, but got the 3XL this time. The bigger sized hoodie is loose in the gut but just right in the armpits, chest, and arms. The first time I rode at highway speeds, the aglets started hitting my helmet and scared me. My fault for not tucking them in. The hoodie is not overly hot. I have ridden with no discomfort in temps up to 87 degrees. The armor doesn't flop around in the hoodie. It is not overly stiff, but you need to work it to make it fit your body comfortably in the elbows and shoulders. This is a great hoodie that I wear on 90 percent of my rides.
