It is "silver-bearing" solder (about 4% solder), and much weaker than real silver solder (50%+ silver). When applicable, I really prefer a soldering iron to an open flame, because you can direct the heat to exactly where needed and not heat up the whole surrounding area. **Q: ant to solder a 1/2" stainless steel coupling to a stainless steel brewpot for making beer. Will this solder work with a mapp torch?** A: Yes, MAPP will work fine for that. The melting point is only a little higher than that of plumbing solder.
