Very nice raw carbon fiber surface that can grab the ball and provide solid spin. Definitely better than your typical fiberglass paddles.About the weird sweet spot. In case you don't know, the "sweet spot" is the area of the paddle that gives the most consistent response from the ball. The closer you get to any edge of the paddle, the more likely the ball is going to come off the face of the paddle a little bit dead... it's gonna be a "mis-hit" of sorts.The sweet spot on most paddles is typically more circular/slightly oval-ish. And that probably holds true for this one as well. BUT, it really seemed to vary according to the speed I was hitting at. Up at the net, the control was excellent and the sweet spot felt very nice all the way up to an inch or so from the top of the paddle. BUT (and this is where the problem comes in) as soon as I was taking harder volleys or ground strokes from back at the baseline... it's like the sweet spot would shrink very quickly to be more circular and leave the top 2-3 inches of the paddle feeling a bit more dead.This MIGHT be a desirable feature for some players that need to slow down their power-hitting banger tendencies, but I didn't enjoy it. I'm open to the fact that maybe I just need more time with this paddle.
