Since the announcement of the anniversary edition in which these books are celebrated by removing the heart of the books (the artwork) to cater to an ever growing overly sensitive society, I knew the beloved originals were going to become increasingly harder to purchase over time. Unfortunately it seems I waited a bit too long to look for them as most of the copies I came by were well into the $100 mark and over. Though I loved these books, I cannot justify paying so much for a children's book ( seeing that I have none). I was willing to pay anywhere from $20-$30, realistically knowing how much of a demand these were becoming, I felt like for a simple paperback that would have been fair.Now I had found many "original collections" on Amazon but upon reading many of the reviews, few people seemed to be satisfied with other products claiming that they did NOT come with Gammell's original work and felt cheated out of the big price they had payed for such a product. Other "original collections" where outrageous in their asking price some going up to $200 for hardcover! All I was looking for was a simple collection so that I may someday past it down and introduce my future children to "horror" without actually traumatizing them. Luckily I stumbled across this collection that was EXACTLY what I was looking for!ABOUT THIS PRODUCT:This book is 6in x 9in paper back that sports the cover as shown in the description. It has a glossy cover with the titles of each book it contains printed on the back.This one book contains 3 books:Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark (1),More Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark (2), and Scary Stories 3: More Tales To Chill Your Bones. The individual books are exactly as I remember them and exactly as it describes. All of Stephen Gammell's original art work is present and holds up to its eerie feel!DEAL BREAKER FOR SOME!!!:The way the individual books are divided in this collection have upset some. IF YOU ARE WANTING THE COVER OF EACH INDIVIDUAL BOOK, THEY ARE NOT INCLUDED. Each book is treated as its own separate thing (minus the cover), meaning the page numbers reset back to 1 at the beginning of each book. There is no index or page marker to indicating where each book begins, so you would need to flag those pages for quick reference if you would like to jump from book to book.Aside from the slight annoyance of flipping back and forth looking for the beginning of each book, this book is PERFECT for the price! It actually succeeded my expectations. I was slightly disappointed that it didn't have at least an image of the covers of each individual book, but that's a small sacrifice I'm willing to pay for small price tag such as this! I do wish I had the money to invest in a hardcover, but for a paperback and collection, this is excellent!!! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Whimsy and Nostalgia *by A***E on Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2014* I loved these stories when I was a kid, and it was so thrilling to share them with my six-year-old daughter for Christmas. Unlike the new set, these have all the original illustrations which made the books so interesting (and terrifying!). Plus having them all condensed into a single tome saves space. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fabulous Flashbacks *by S***D on Reviewed in the United States on August 26, 2016* I received my first copy of these books when I was in fourth grade (I'm now in my mid-thirties), and I love them just as much present day as I did back then. The artwork is what really makes this trilogy a standout among scary stories; I've always been inspired by the haunting and disturbing illustrations and they have continue to inspire my professional artwork; also as a teacher, I love spreading the love of this series far and wide to new generations (plus my best childhood friend's daughter inherited our freakish love of the macabre, hence my order of two copies!). If you decide to order this set, make sure to get the copies that have the original illustrator, Stephen Gammell; awhile ago, they re-released these books with a new, toned-down, and very tame (eg: boring) artwork.
