## Description

Refraction is the change in direction of light (or other waves) when it moves from one material to another, caused by a change in its speed. For instance, when light travels from air into this lens, it slows down and bends, helping to focus a ray box of beams into a point like an human retina.
Learn how our eyes work, and how glasses can help them when we get old!
Reflection is when light or other waves hit a surface and bounce back, changing direction. This occurs because the surface doesn’t absorb the waves, causing them to reflect at an angle equal to their incidence. This principle is crucial in applications like mirrors and optical devices, and it also applies to sound and water waves, creating phenomena like echoes and wave redirection.
Have you ever really wondered why you can see yourself in a mirror but not in a painted wall?
Diffraction happens when waves, like light or sound, bend around barriers or spread out after moving through small gaps. This bending is due to the interference of secondary wavelets at the wavefront, producing patterns of light and dark bands.
The wavelength and the size of the obstacle or opening influence the amount of diffraction. Longer wavelengths bend more than shorter ones when passing through the same gap. Scientists and engineers use diffraction for things like understanding crystals, creating stronger plastics, and measuring the atmosphere of other planets!
In a color mixing experiment using red, green, and blue (RGB) LED lights, you shine them onto a white surface. Combining two LEDs at a time allows you to observe new colors: red and green make yellow, red and blue make magenta, and green and blue make cyan. When all three LEDs are combined, they produce white light. This demonstrates additive color mixing, where different light colors blend to form new ones. It's the principle behind the pixels of our TV's and giant screens in stadiums!
Light Blox are an excellent tool for classroom demonstrations, making complex concepts in optics and light easy to understand for students from grades 2 to 12. Their vibrant red, green, and blue beams can be used to illustrate principles such as color mixing, reflection, and refraction - engaging students with interactive and visually stimulating lessons. Get them excited about light!
Use the multiple colors to understand how we make white light with new LED lighting technology. Can they make new colors? What happens if you look at colorful candy with only one or two colors of light?
Take the caps off to study color mixing and shadows, or put the caps on to form a straight line for studying refraction and reflection. These small, versatile educational tools can do it all!
Stack the 3 Light Blox together to form a Ray Box and see how our eyes focus, or shine them through a pinhole to see how light naturally spreads out!
The primary colors of light – red, green and blue - are not like the primary colors of pigments. When you mix all of the colors of paint, you get a mess – but when you mix the three primary colors of light, you get white light.

Explore, inquire and observe all the properties of light with one simple tool - no expensive equipment needed. Make the science of light and optics fun and accessible for students in grades 3-12!
Light is a visually engaging and fun topic for kids and adults, but it can be abstract and difficult to teach also – so we’ve created dozens of labs, experiments, lessons and activities for mixing primary colors of light, reflection, refraction and more with Light Blox. Available for download from a code inside the box!

## Features

- Learn How Light Bounces And Bends: Three colors of LED sources make narrow lines of light to explore reflection and refraction when used with mirrors, lenses and prisms. Master the physics of light to understand how microscopes and telescopes work with the human eye!
- Make White Light By Mixing Colors: Remove the caps to project soft, uniform single-color rectangles. When these rectangles overlap, you can make new colors! Mix red, green and blue light together to make white light!
- 6 Lessons Included: Start their discovery of light and color to prepare them for a world filled with LED lighting and LED-based technologies. 6 lessons are included for digital download from the box insert using household supplies, and up to 10 additional lessons are possible when used with lenses, mirrors, and diffraction gratings.
- Sticks To Magnetic Surfaces: Laminated magnets along the bottom lets you stick these to magnetic whiteboards for classroom demonstrations or helps secure them from falls on metal desks. This 2nd-generation version has stronger magnets than before to avoid slipping on weakly magnetic white boards.
- Kid-Friendly Design: These simple LED light sources are not hazardous to your eyes and the tough plastic housing is durable in falls. Alkaline AA batteries (not included) are securely housed inside a strong cover. Low-power laminated magnetic strips are glued into place on the bottom.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fun light and color kit for kids to explore science concepts!
*by on Reviewed in the United States November 21, 2025*

I ordered this kit for my 10-year-old son to use at home as an exploration in light and color. I was expecting to use it before bedtime as a way to transition away from screen time. What I didn't expect was that we can use it in our living room with all the windows open in the middle of the afternoon! It was surprising how relatively bright these lights were given that they are LEDs. I got to play with the kit during the afternoon it arrived, and my son has been using it at night. His only complaint is that the red light doesn't shine as brightly onto the wall from where the coffee table is located - a very minor inconvenience! I wanted something for him that was not a laser but could still be paired with mirrors or lenses for light explorations as he gets older. The kit came with a link to some lessons, but we've been having fun coming up with our own ideas that we haven't checked the lessons out yet. I think this is a great kit and worth the price!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Safe Classroom Fun
*by on Reviewed in the United States November 8, 2025*

Love these in my elementary/middle school science classroom. Students love using them. I love how safe they are and not actual lasers. Great ideas on their website for using in the classroom. My students like using them in a dark classroom to try to identify m&m colors. I needed another set due to my larger class size. Great improvements.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A very useful laser kit for youth
*by on Reviewed in the United States November 10, 2025*

Very nice kit. My second kit! Resources are available @ "laserclassroom.com". I also have another kit from the website. The purpose of the kit is to teach about color mixing and properties of thr color lasers for other experiments. I recommend this kit for youth of any age.
