It protects well from the sun. The neck flap was not annoying like I thought it would be. When I get hot, I just dunk it in water and put it back on. So 5 stars for being a great sun hat. Now the bad news. I use the hat for fishing on our boat. I have tried pretty wide brimmed hats, but they get blown off, etc., so this is far superior to traditional women's sun hats.
