Review: Heat Storm HS-1500-PHX Dynamo! - This review is for the Heat Storm HS-1500-PHX-WIFI Wifi Wall Mounted Heater. I bought one of these heaters when on a limited time deal and was very happy with it. I actually had a use for a 2nd one so checked the next day and there was a $5.00 coupon with the same limited time deal, so I bought another. These are replacing two Lasko high tech tower heaters, one of which has an odor that never went away and gives me a headache so I don’t use it at all, other than its excellent fan mode during the summer. *** Some key components to using any space heater for zone heating is first of all, don’t overestimate the unit’s capability. These are meant to be used as supplemental heat but in some situations, can be used as a primary source also, but again, be realistic. Secondly, and more important, isolate the space you are heating. Close the doors/windows/openings to other rooms, etc., and keep it as draft free as possible. This may not seem like a big thing, but it is. Also, an insulated space is a big plus when using the heater. The better insulated, the more heat will be realized and held longer. Common sense, but sometimes not so common. The above is important when comparing heater reviews. Also what is the outside temperature at the time of usage, and as mentioned above, how big a space is being heated, and what is the temperature expectation; are we trying to heat to 75 degrees, or a more realistic 65 - 68 +/- degrees. Both my Heat Storms are used in rectangular rooms in my semi-finished basement. The larger room is 23’ x 14’ with two unfinished outside walls and a drop ceiling. I heat this room to 64 - 65 degrees only when using it, playing pool or watching TV with my grandson. The other room is a 14’ x 10’ ManCave with one outside wall and a drop ceiling and is where I work out. I heat this room only when using it to 63 - 64 degrees. We use the Heat Storms as true zone heaters; as heating only when using the rooms they are in. Our house has a gas forced air HVAC system but the upstairs is heated pretty much by a ventless gas fireplace, other than the mornings when the furnace brings the house up to heat, so the Heat Storms may be considered as our primary heat for the basement. We live in Michigan and since I have had the heaters we have had temps anywhere from the low teens to the mid 30’s and the Heat Storms have done their job. The larger room will take anywhere from 15 - 40 minutes to achieve the above set temp, while the smaller only around 10 - 25 minutes or so. When on high, the unit hovers around 1500 watts +/-, and when on low, 750 +/- watts. The fan is fairly quiet in my estimation. In the past I have stayed away from the quartz element type heaters because of some bad experiences and my opinion of them not producing as much heat as other ceramic or PTC type heaters. But using Kasa energy smart plugs, which monitors many energy consumption areas, one thing I discovered is some of the PTC heaters although giving instant heat, does so at the cost of pulling upwards and a bit over 2000 watts while ramping up that instant heat. This is only for a very short period of time but can add to the usage cost and possible connection problems. If the outlet being used to plug any electric space heater has a loose fitting plug at all, it should not be used until replaced. This is the cause of most complaints of a burning plug or outlet. Any poor fitting plug to outlet generates heat from high resistance which if left unattended, will overheat and possibly burn. Good points: Has absolutely no odor when in operation, unlike some Ceramic/PTC units, which I have two of also. Keeps the temperature within one degree +/- of the set temperature. I have not come across an electric space heater that even comes close to this. If the temp is set at 64, it turns off when just touching 65, then back on again when touching 63. Can’t get any better than this. Has a 3 speed fan only mode also which I didn’t see mentioned in the advertising. This is great for a bit of summer cool when the AC is not required. Very easy to install using the included template with level and very light weight. Can be used with both Alexa and Google. I use Alexa voice commands and it works very well. This unit has two washable filters, one on each side and I think the way the unit inhales air has a lot to do with its even set temperature accuracy. The Wi-Fi works great. On both my heaters it was a simple setup that took only minutes using the Smart Life app. Bad Points, or I should say ‘Point’, as for my purposes, only one: Setting an on/off timer must be done on the heater itself, the remote control or an Alexa voice command. Although the app has all sorts of scheduling options, plus other features, I haven’t found a way to set an on/off timer using the app. If you want to turn it off in an hour, you have to set it to turn off an hour from the current time. The extended cool down can be offensive but doesn’t bother me since I am turning the heater(s) off and leaving the area. This is a great little heater and if used properly, within expectations and capabilities, should satisfy a lot of people. Limiting usage to a zone type heating should keep the electric bill in check. When I bought, the price was right also. Now, we will check its operational life although I think it should do well as Heat Storm appears to be a reputable company.
Review: Great product! - This product works very well and is very convenient as you can connect multiple of them using their app to control it from your phone.! Also, they have their own built-in thermostats again which in the app you also have the thermostat and all the controls to be able to set them to keep your home at certain temperature of your choosing, and save money on your utilities if you use them correctly. Also comes with a fairly thin but easy to wash filter on the side. You can mount these at the bottom of your wall and use them in each room if you choose to for zone heating and if you use them as such, you can actually control your whole home without having to use your furnace. Again I have been using them and just my wood fireplace instead of using my furnace and they have kept my home warm. Also, you can change the decibel sound and the fan speed from low to a natural air where it kind of fluctuates just as it would outside with the airflow and movement of the wind and also has a high setting for the fan. You can also use them as heat or , as they do also have a setting where you can just use the fan mode to circulate air in your home in the summer or to help cool down an area if it is too warm, such as a kitchen after cooking or baking something which causes excess heat in your kitchen when you cook. Anyhow just a great all-around item. Again just make sure you are using them and having them set properly. Also, the screen where the heat comes out is not hot to the touch so it is safe around children and pets.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How manu sf is it rated for?**
A: Rule of thumb for heating as a PRIMARY SOURCE is 10 watts per soft. Thus if you have a 16x22 garage (352sqft) you’d need a minimum of 3,520 watts. For 400 sqft you’d need 4000 watts. This does 150 sqft! This around 10x15 or for a small shed 20x7.5... this assumes adequate insulation too. I used it in a garage that was insulated and it did nothing. If you stood 6 inches from the heater you could feel it but that’s it.

**Q: Is there an automatic shut-off feature after a certain number of hours of operation?**
A: There is, via the timer feature -- it can be set to turn on and off as often as you want via that function.

It also fully shuts off the heater elements and fan after reaching the temperature (within 2-3 degrees of variation as others have written here).

The WiFi feature is GREAT.. combined with the Sensei app you can turn it off manually, remotely too! This was awesome when my teenager accidentally left the door open while we were out of town... I saw on my phone that the room was much cooler than what the heater was set to (it gives you both current temp and desired temp in the app) and I shot her a text message ... within 10 minutes it was back up to temp in the room (and she shut the door.. *headdesk* ) :-)

**Q: How do I know if this is 'energy efficient' as the description claims?**
A: All electrical resistance heaters convert 100% of the energy they use to heat. The efficiency question comes in, as Heat Storm says, when you ask where is the heat going (fan blows it into the room where you are - so good) and does it create too much heat (thermostat shuts it off when the air is warm enough - good). The answer from Amazon Customer on December 7, 2020 is incorrect. Every last watt will become heat in the room, even the light from the glowing element will become heat in the room unless you point the heater out an open window - don't do that, and you're all set.

**Q: Are you able to change the temp using google home? How do you get google home to tell you the current temp in F?**
A: Hello again! Thanks for being patient. Google home can now operate in Fahrenheit. To do this, please unlink Smart Life from Google Home. Then confirm that your heater is displaying the temperature in Fahrenheit. Once you have your heater settings on Fahrenheit, relink Smart Life to Google Home. Now you will be able to operate your heater with Google home in Fahrenheit. If you want to change the settings back to Celcius, you will need to unlink Smart Life from Google Home, set your heater to Celsius, and relink. Thank you, EnergyWise Solutions

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Reliable, Efficient Heat. So Good I Bought Two
*by R***Z on May 24, 2025*

I bought my first Heat Storm HS-1500-PHX-WIFI heater three years ago for my large bedroom, and I was so impressed with how well it worked that I bought a second one last year for our cold basement bathroom. Both units have performed flawlessly, and I honestly wouldn’t want to go through a winter without them. Let’s start with the bedroom unit. My room is pretty spacious, and it used to be hard to keep warm without cranking up the whole-house heat. This heater changed that. Mounted on the wall, it takes up no floor space and puts out enough warmth to keep the entire room cozy—even on the coldest nights. It heats evenly, without drying out the air or making the room feel stuffy. I usually set it to a lower temperature while I sleep, and it holds that temp consistently. The second unit went into a basement bathroom that’s always been icy in the winter, even with the rest of the house heated. The Heat Storm completely transformed the space. I mounted it right on the wall next to the door, and within a few minutes, the chill is gone. It’s made getting ready in the morning a lot more comfortable, especially during the colder months. The Wi-Fi functionality is a huge plus. Being able to control the heaters from my phone using the app means I can turn the bathroom heater on a few minutes before I go down, or check the bedroom temp without getting out of bed. The app has been reliable and easy to use, and both heaters stay connected without any issues. It’s a smart feature that actually adds real convenience. These heaters are quiet, efficient, and look clean and modern on the wall. I also like that they stay cool to the touch on the sides and don’t take up any floor space. Installation was easy both times, and they’ve been completely maintenance-free since I mounted them. No weird smells, no noise, and no surprise malfunctions.
