The best way to prevent it from going black is to use flameless tea light. Some of my other customer has also use fairy light instead. If so, you could but you would either have to do it through the side holes to keep the large hole in the front or through the top holes which would make the large whole face the side. They came individually packaged in styrofoam which was great to transport them home in. Glass was nice with good size opening. Would definitely buy again.
