A: No they do not lock, but they are still a very sturdy pair of tongs.

**Q: are these dishwasher safe**
A: Mine have gone through dishwasher many times, I see no problems

**Q: Is the weight of 1.6 oz. usually considered 'heavyweight' as listed in the description for these tongs?**
A: It seems just right to me.  It certainly is not flimsy.  I would be more concerned about tongs that are cheaply made with thin metal.  This is not that; it has a nice feel to it.
