Magnesium
I like that it is more absorbable and affordable, and it works. It helps with pain and memory.

Notable because it crosses the blood-brain barrier effectively...

Expensive but best (for at least some of the Mag you get...)
Why take multiple Magnesium supplements?: I take both Mag Threonate & Taurate. The 144mg supplied by this (and most other Mag Threonate supplements) only supplies 34% of the RDA (and from everything I've read the RDA is low). So, unless you eat a lot of foods containing Magnesium to get the optimum amount you'll need more than just the Threonate (which IMO is primary, as it is the one that most easily crosses the blood/brain barrier). Many of the other Mags would work for the rest since most are easily absorbed by the rest of the body. I use Mag Taurate since the taurine it is bound to has a calming effect (ie if I take it with the second cup of coffee it completely prevents the jitters).About Nature's Trove (this brand): Have been taking their Theanine and SAMe (and like both, and the SAMe cost less & works as well as the brand I was taking).Cost: Prices change so you will need to compare. I think for the most part Magtein (the brand of Magnesium you want to take, and the brand included by most of the well known Threonate providers) is Magtein. Nature's Trove is currently costs little less than the one I was taking (with the exact same 144mg of elemental magnesium from 2000mg of Magein).

Increasing Magnesium Intake, No Side Effects
After reading about the benefits of magnesium and checking the amounts that are included in my current supplements, I became aware that I should be increasing my intake. I read that this type of magnesium is processed by the body more effectively so I wanted to try it. I also want to reduce my melatonin intake for a while, but have trouble getting to sleep. It is too soon to tell but I think I am sleeping better now that I am taking this magnesium. I started taking a reduced amount than what is recommended on the label, and am slowly increasing to the recommended four. The product listing states that it is 3rd party tested and manufactured in the United States with strict GMP conditions, which I like. So far I haven’t had any adverse reactions.

Seems like good stuff
Of all the types of magnesium available, my doc wants me taking magtein and at this dosage, so I decided to try this brand. The label indicates they are made in the USA in a GMP facility, and that these are true Magtein. So far these have been as good as any other Magtein I've tried, and the price is inline with other brands. When you find something that works, you want to stick with it, and this seems good to me.

Read all the other reviews
Some of them are written by folks who seem to know what they are talking about. The reason that this product may have a decent nootropic effect is that its form, Magnesium Threonate, actually does pass the blood/brain barrier. Products that claim to be nootropic agents that cannot pass the blood/brain barrier are made by charlatans. What I'm waiting for is a magnesium threonate product in gummy form because then it can be used for sub-lingual/buccal absorption, and that will certainly increase its efficacy. I can't say with specificity what changes this brand of Magnesium Threonate might go through as it passes through the alimentary tract, but the less exposure to any such modification (as opposed to direct passage into the blood stream) the better. I have looked at the molecular weight of Magnesium Threonate and in theory, it should have no problem passing the BBB ----------- but that doesn't mean it actually does.
