Even tho the slit goes all the way up, you never have to worry about anything (other than your leg) showing. The material is nice and thin which makes then fantastic to wear on a hot day. I bought the xl and usually wear a 10-12 (us sizing) and these fit well. I probably even could have gone a size smaller, but I still like the feel and fit of the xl. Some people complain about length, but I'm 5 ft 8in and they camr right to my ankles, no problem. Elastic on the waist seems good and can comfortably stretch quite a bit farther (probably would be fantastic maternity pants as there's no pressure on your belly) but only time will tell how that elastic will hold up.
