When you watch videos by John Howard Sanden you see that he uses these, plus a full palette of additional colors and he mixes colors every third brush stroke. He does not use them as they come from the box. These colors are a welcome addition to my full palette and this is my second order of this set. John Howard Sanden was not only a wonderful artist, he was, and continues to be, an incredible instructor. Review: Questionable Quality - First off, I am not a professional painter. As the reader can tell that I went for a pre-mix system for personal reasons. I admire Mr. John Howard Sandens' work but this product does not represent Mr. Sandens' fine art. The box I received looked new and intact but once I used it the poor quality came through. I am learning how to paint from a very good instructor but I will leave the instructor anonymous to to protect the person's reputation. Whatever level of your proficiency in oil painting, think twice before you sink your hard earned money in this. Back to the bad product, it was gummy and won't adhere to a well primed quality canvas. I prefer the wet on wet method of oil painting and this product (all of the tubes) would become tacky and gummy as soon as I brush onto the canvas. I decided to test my other (unname brand) oil paint and they painted like oil paint should be. The seller might have sold me some old stock from many years ago and that I will never know. To all oil painting enthusiasts, think twice before you waste your money. I was very unimpressed at all of the dark paints, they were gritty, dried and not very fun to use. I will say I purchased two sets of these paints and the exact same thing happened to the exact same colors.
