They are solar powered and shine all night long. The only thing I wish is that the flames were a little brighter and shined the same all night long, but, because they are solar powered, they lose brightness half way through the night. They are great for the money. Since they are indoor/outdoor, I have them in a candle holder out in the garden underneath a small oak tree planted in my son's memory, and have proven themselves to definitely be waterproof as advertised. Overall, this is a 5 star item and I definitely recommend them for anyone wishing to purchase them for outdoor decorations or for parties outdoors, especially at night.
