What I really like about this cork mat is it is smooth while still having the micro texture feeling of the cork, it is not as smooth as for example plastic or glass, but smooth in that I don't feel grains of a surface like a dense right knit rug (where you can feel a texture to a point where it would not be one that would be ideal to have your hands or feet on while doing yoga). I have only used it once so far, but in the places I got sweat on it there is no break down of the surface like there was on the lower priced one I had before that started to occur shortly after it got sweat on it. My dog stepped on this when I was using it after being outside, and it did show a bit of light dirt from his paw print on it (though not on the wood floor around it), so this does show substances that get on it fairly easy. I tried to wash it off with water, and so far I can still see where the paw print was. The dirt may have got in between the mirco pores, but it is not a really noticeable mark and it may come out with more water, but I don't want to rub it with water and cause any damage to it. I will come back in a few months and give a up date on if the mark came out or more end up showing on it. That doesn't really bother me, as my primary use for this will be on the wood floors at home in front of my TV where I follow along with Dean Pohlman's Yoga Strong DVD series. If you are a guy looking to start using Yoga to become more flexible and reshape your body etc, I have found his series to be helpful as I was not interested in going to a public class to learn. I like as a guy that this mat is also simple and a neutral color, I don't really like the logo being on it, but it isn't a huge deal. I didn't want one with a bunch of designs on it, but just a simple one and this one has that look that I was looking for. This mat is heavy! I use it at home and in my in-building gym, so the weight is not much of an issue for me. The mat is otherwise very comfortable to use. Does not slide. The wetter the mat gets (with your sweat) the less slippery it becomes, not that it is particularly slippery otherwise.
