It's a must for cast iron sinks. The only thing is that it requires a sink strainer or something like it to prevent spoons and small objects from falling in. I could not use the sink strainer that I had. The opening is a bit larger. We just happened to purchase one, 1 month before we needed to replace the Insinkerator. After reading numerous reviews of farmhouse sinks that said the normal Waste King disposal flange neck was too short for the thickness of that style sink, I purchased this extended flange to go with my new Waste King 9980 Disposal, so my plumber could install it in one go with the sink.
