Review: A Great Cook Book for Learning to Use a Pressure Cooker - This book was not written specifically for the Instant Pot which is the specific pressure cooker I have but even though I am a total beginner in using a pressure cooker, this book makes every recipe clear and straightforward. Things I like about it: It has excellent pictures of the result of almost every recipe. Each recipe follows the same pattern. On the left side of each page is the Shopping List. On the right of each page is a clear numbered step by step explanation of what to do next. In the bottom left-hand corner of each recipe page, there is an extra paragraph about something helpful. These are called different things: Play it Safe, Make It a Meal, Make it Faster are three examples. At the back of this book is a very helpful "Cook Times Reference". Each section has the same headings: Type, Size, Liquid, Time, Temp{erature}, Release, Frozen. So, for example, if I wanted to pressure cook sausages, they can be any size, the liquid I use should cover them, the time should be set for 10 minutes, the temperature set high, The release is Quick {this is clearly explained in the book,--I found it helpful to put a paperclip in the page where the different releases are explained-} and if my sausages were frozen, I would add 7 more minutes to my time. The next thing I am going to pressure cook will be a whole chicken. The instructions are for a chicken between 2-3 pounds, I will add 2/3ds of a cup of liquid, set the timer for 8 minutes, and the temperature on high, and release the pressure with the Quick setting. The frozen column says N/A! Some recipes: Tangerine Cheesecake Apple Cranberry Chutney Spiced Rice Pilaf Chicken {Breasts} with Stewed Cherry Tomatoes Tangy Lentil Salad {delicious!} The Best Ever Macaroni and Cheese Tender Poached Salmon I highly recommend this book. I debated on this one for awhile. I'm on a number of FB cooking pages where this book is mentioned quite often. There are 65,000 members on this page, so the reviews are mostly favorable, along with some good criticism. There were a few comments that the recipes were too processed, and used too many fake foods. That was my deterrent. BUT, I found that NOT to be true, in my opinion. I saw the use of sugar (which I omit); and Velveeta mentioned only once (in the mac n cheese recipe), which was only a small amount, and can be omitted, or substituted. Other than that, I didn't find any processed ingredients, or any ingredients you certainly couldn't choose to omit or substitute. Many of the people mentioned their favorite recipes and I'm trying to attempt those first. What I really love about this cookbook is the ease of use: 1) The nice large, bold print on white paper; with double spacing - for ease of reading 2) The tabs at the top - like index cards to show the time, temperature and number of servings 3) The great photographs 4) The numbered; double-spaced; and highlighted instructions 5) The Note at the bottom of each recipe The recipes are simple; family-friendly and easy to modify. A few comments on the FB page said they felt the recipes were 'bland' and 'needed something'. Well, if you're a person who loves to cook, you will naturally want to tweak most recipes to your own liking anyway, so that didn't bother me. Many said they took their cookbook to a place like Kinkos or Staples and had the bind cut off and spiral bound.
