I needed it to keep my dog from scratching the top of the console so I have to keep maneuvering it to cover better. I might buy another and use both in order to cover the entire console top. It also comes with side slots (pockets) to keep skinny items in. I don't know what its made of but feels like some type of nylon thats easy to clean. And its comfortable enough to rest my elbow on but not thick.
