Review: Simple basic water test for 4 heavy metals - Test showed that my tap and filtered water has acceptable levels of all 4 of these heavy metals. My water filter (aquagear) seems to remove Cu. Only had 1 test for Pb so only tested the tap water and assumed the filtered water Pb levels would be at or lower than tap. Likes: fast and easy to use, 2 tests for copper (Cu), iron (Fe), and mercury (Hg). Dislikes: only 1 test for lead (Pb), chlorine interferes with Hg by imparting a blue/green color making reading Hg difficult to impossible. Chlorine will evaporate over time so one work around is to let the water sit for 24 hours before testing.

A: Iron = 0.3ppm, Mercury = 0.002 ppm, Copper, 0.05 ppm, Lead is a yes/no test. If the lead is over 15 ppb, it reads positive.

**Q: What are signs of lead in water?**
A: There are no visible signs or odors when lead is in the water. The only way to know is to test the water.

**Q: What level of lead in water is safe?**
A: The EPA set a threshold level of 15 parts per billion (ppb) for municipal water treatment companies. If 10% of the water samples contain over 15 ppb, the treatment company has to take action to remove the lead. No lead is considered safe to consume. The problem is lead can enter the water system at your home through pipes, solder and fixtures. There are no regulations for controlling lead on your private property.

**Q: What is the range of the lead test kit?**
A: The lead test kit is a pass/fail type of test. The U.S EPA has a set a 15 part per billion (ppb) limit for municipal water providers. This test shows if the lead level in the water is above or below the 15 ppb level.

Test showed that my tap and filtered water has acceptable levels of all 4 of these heavy metals. My water filter (aquagear) seems to remove Cu. Only had 1 test for Pb so only tested the tap water and assumed the filtered water Pb levels would be at or lower than tap. Likes: fast and easy to use, 2 tests for copper (Cu), iron (Fe), and mercury (Hg). Dislikes: only 1 test for lead (Pb), chlorine interferes with Hg by imparting a blue/green color making reading Hg difficult to impossible. I used this kit to test my tap water for lead and mercury primarily. The directions were easy to follow. The results were easy to read and it only took a few minutes. I liked that there were two tests available in the event I made an error, spilled the packets of powder or whatever. Three would be even better. There was only one test paper for lead. An additional test strip would have allowed me to confirm that I had followed instructions accurately if the results were inconclusive. Worked well, easy to use, appears to be accurate. I took away one star because there are 2 tests for each metal (Iron, copper, mercury) but only one for lead. What's up with that? Supposed to test your drinking water once a year. Next year I can test 3 metals, but I can't test for lead.
