I have to say that right out of the box, this saw is impressive. It is very heavy and sturdy. I've used a sliding 12 in Dewalt, and this saw is right on par with that one. It's loud, but with ear protection, you're good. I wouldn't recommend using without some sort of ear protection as it is very loud (louder than a 10 in table saw). I would say that for the average DYIer, this saw is more than enough. You can't go wrong with this one. I've been using for 3 months now, and it hasn't let me down yet!
