However, I not sure the rigid suction tube that extends from the bottom of the pump is long enough to reach the pan. There are other extractor pumps for sale on amazon that are designed and more suitable for the application that you are referring to. Try searching 'oil extractor pump', and you should get plenty of options. Unfortunately, you're going to have to pay a lot more than $9.59 for one of those pumps. **Q: Can someone please tell me the outside diameter of the plastic tubing?** A: Outside diameter 12.5 mm or about 1/2" Inside diameter 10.5 mm or about 3/8" **Q: After washing up the parts of this unit.. do you just drop the ball bearing back into the bottom of the unit? Nothing appears to keep it in place.** A: Yes, the little steel ball is not held in place by anything because it acts as a floating check valve. Comes with multiple bottle cap adapters to swap out based whichever size container you are using, as well as the different length tubes to reach the bottom of the container. I used this on a Valvoline Transmission fluid bottle in Gallon size and the pump screwed on perfectly. One of the tubes reached the bottom of the gallon bottle perfectly. Another helpful feature was the tip with the clip which helps to secure itself to the hole you are filling. Press the wing tabs while slightly twisting and pulling to release tip. Satisfied with the purchase of this pump because it got the job done with minimal mess and spillage.
