Under normal circumstances, this thing isn't going to be ripped apart--it's really sturdy! We got it for a Medicare card and it fit great! It should last for a long time and keep the card from getting torn. That being said, this isn't waterproof, so water will still be the enemy to watch out for, unless you tape the open side shut with packing tape or something.
