'Nother Citizen winner.
I've owned a few Eco-Drive watches, all from the Promaster family of timepieces. All of them well designed and crafted. All of them rugged wrist wear. All of them unnecessarily complicated for a guy that hasn't been under the ocean in 20 years and will never fly a plane. This gem though; simple, tough. A brilliant handsome timepiece in it's lack of the "extra".The Tough is a smaller watch than I usually wear at 42 mm in width, the face is very legible however. The sapphire is clear and gorgeous, the date window though small is easy to see at standard watch viewing distance (no squinting). I adore the fit of the flat back of the monocoque (mono-coke? mono-co-q? mono-rooster? I haven't a clue how to pronounce that) case. More outdoor, rugged tool type watches should feature this. It's without battery, it's going to have to travel for service when and if it ever needs it anyway. Citizen should produce more of these, the enormous Ecozilla would truly benefit and I'd buy another on that addition alone.I love that the movement is referred to as "budget", it doesn't have the complication as higher end offerings from Citizen but it keeps flawless time as quartz does without the annoyance of a battery. I popped the top on the completely unnecessary but un-sayably cool dry box type packaging and watched as the second hand took off. I set it with an atomic clock app for reference and the difference between is so little that I can't tell the difference. The bracelet...I really don't want to bash the bracelet. It's as well designed, constructed and rugged as the rest of the watch. Solid links, the clasp "butterfly" is milled versus stamped. Pins versus screws but I have the tools for that. It's a pretty nice bracelet. It's also a touch tight on my eight and one half inches wrist. The watch is obviously too small for you, you might say. I'd say you're mistaken. It wears very well with the exception of the tightness of the bracelet. Rather refreshing actually as all of my other watches are ha-yuge. And ...it's a lot lighter than I would have thought, probably due to that mono-whatever case. All of that said, I called Citizen, talked to an actual person (in the U.S of A) after less than a minute and in less than five minutes of converse I was informed two extra links would be at my door in 7 to 10 working days. At no charge at all to me. That's outstanding customer service. I'd buy Citizen again based on that alone. I've had a great experience communicating with the companies in the P.R.C, Shenzhen Audio comes to mind. Their customer service has always been impeccable as well, but the ease with which Citizen handled my request was beyond a surprise. I was left with time on my hands and I wasted it being absolutely idle, it was wonderful. While certainly not an homage to any of the more expensive tool watches such as the Rolex Milgauss, The Sinn's, The Damasko's, The Ball's; they all certainly lift heavy at the same gym. I still lust after a Ball auto Engineer but the Tough does slake that thirst just a bit.--UpdateReceived the spare links yesterday and ultimately ended up with only one extra link installed. On an 8.5 inch wrist. The link pins push out easily with a spring bar tool. They did require the use of my leatherman's needle nose to remove once pushed through. Re-installing was much the same. Pushing the pin in and using the spring bar tool to "click" them in and center them. For the nearly $500 msrp this should really be screws I think but whom of us on Amazon pays msrp for anything. At the $250-ish I paid. Pins is fine. With the bracelet now appropriately sized wears really nicely doesn't rip the hair out of your wrist. Has a lot of presence on the wrist despite the smaller case size than I'm used to. I really like the toolish look. Simple and masculine. Looks great on leather and fabric straps as well as NATO's. I may purchase another to keep on a strap for the different look and feel. I really like this timepiece.Update No. 2Being a nerd, I set this watch 5 days ago using an app that references atomic time keeping. There's a bunch. Tonight I took another measurement. After 5 days the Tough is accurate to the second. I double checked this against time.gov and the tough is accurate to the second relative to the website. Not bad for a budget movement.Additionally, the Tough has taken uncountable knocks, bumps, runs and glancing blows against a myriad of hard and or abrasive vertical amd horizontal surfaces. The only marking is on the bracelet clasp. I suspect these bilateral marks are from being lain in my bedside table and being tested on my work surface on the wrist. The size has become my new perfect and the weight while reassuring as to the burly construction has become unnoticed. I don't think about the watch on my wrist until I check the time. As much as I appreciate my Maratac pilot (former fav automatic) and my slightly modded Casio tough solar (former fav quartz) this timepiece is tbe only one getting wrist time.

Beater or Not ?
Before purchasing the ProMaster Tough, I read written reviews as well as watched YouTube video reviews. What struck me is how many reviews characterized this watch as a "beater" watch. I agree the Tough certainly deserves its appellation for it strong and durable features, but the thought of making it a "beater" also hints at the notion of an expendable piece with a MSRP of $500. I didn't buy this superb watch with that idea in mind. What I was looking for in a watch is a well made analog without complications that can "stand up" to the demands of a physically active life style of work and leisure. It had to be utilitarian, minimalist, and attractive in its design and presentation. Also, given the fact that it's a Citizen Eco-Drive closed the deal. After reading and reviewing specifics on countless numbers of watches from numerous manufacturers, I settled on the ProMaster Tough. Now that I own one, I know I made the right decision. I don't regard it as a disposable "beater" and hope to be wearing it twenty years later without ever having to replace a battery. A sure way to say "I got my money's worth".

Great Watch, Except for Only Negative - Date Size - However, I Bought Another
I like absolutely everything about this watch except for one thing. That is the size of the date display. It is quite small and is difficult for my old eyes to read. If you have better eyes than mine, this may be the perfect watch. Quality is exceptional. Love the Eco-Drive. Face is extremely easy to read - except for date. Comfortable to wear. To me, it looks great.3 year Update - I loved everything about my Promaster Tough except for the date size. So, I sold it to my best friend. Recently, I have been looking at watches with faces without the date feature, like the Tudor Ranger and Omega Railmaster. Date availability isn't such a big deal for my three year older eyes, but watch face clarity is. The Tudor Ranger and Omega Railmaster don't have a date complication, and their faces are similar to and extremely readable like the Citizen Promaster Tough. It occurred to me that the Promaster Tough with EcoDrive has everything that is good about the Tudor and Omega and is important to me. So, I just ordered another Promaster Tough. I'll let you know how I like it in another three years.

The lume is terrible! What's worse than terrible? It's that!
Really wanted to like this watch. It's pretty cool and the bracelet is very nice. The lume however is virtually nonexistent! Fades literally minutes after activation. For example, I charged the watch for about 8 hours under a very bright desk lamp and the lume was done shining within minutes of removing it from under the lamp. If only they could apply a Seiko type of lume they'd have a winner. Shockingly terrible lume as is. I love Citizen watches (Eco Drive) by the way so was really disappointed.Update August 2021: I exchanged my watch assuming that there was an issue with the lume as no lume could be as bad as the lume on my watch was and I've since become a HUGE fan of this watch. It's my semi-regular daily wear watch. The lume is adequate (much better than the first one) on the unit I received and as I mentioned previously, I really like everything else about this watch. I've put it on a black two-piece nato strap and it's very comfortable. Will only lose about a second a month!

Almost perfect everyday watch
Great watch. I have several Citizen Eco-drives, and this is my fav. Tough enough for everyday wear, even under challenging conditions, while being elegant enough for almost any occasion. Dead accurate- hasn’t lost or gained a second since I set it a month ago. The slim case is very comfortable to wear. Not too big or flashy. Only negative is the date function is useless due to the ridiculously small display. Otherwise, an outstanding value in an everyday watch.

Sexy watch
Received this fast. No signs of a fake watch. I am really picky and will return the watch with the slightest discrepancy. All papers received, and yes, the watch is beautiful.
