The mileage is calculated by multiplying the movement by an average distance of a dogs gate. You can imagine the variability involved between different size dogs. In respect to the calculation of running, it only counts running if the dog is running for the majority of a 5 minute block of time. If your dog runs for 2 minutes and then stops, it will not count that time as running. It's not perfect, but its pretty good. If you want absolute mileage, then a GPS tracker would be a better, and an assuredly more expensive, solution. I have had a couple of other pet trackers, and the PITPAT has outlasted them all. **Q: Does this tracker work in Pakistan?coz i live in Pakistan** A: The PitPat does not use GPS to show location or calculate distance. It estimates the distance covered by your dog based on their steps and the average stride length of your dog's breed. PitPat has a three-axis accelerometer which records all your dog’s movements, 24/7. These are analysed to determine whether your dog is walking, running, playing, pottering or resting. You’ll find out how many minutes of activity and resting your dog does each day – and when they did it. The PitPat device and free app are available to use worldwide. In the forest there’s no service here.** A: I'm actually unsure. You do need wifi to download the data, but I'm not sure if it collects data in place without cell service.
