It took me 8 hours to get the first bed assembled. The slats are a beast to get into both railings and the screws tightened down. Also, lay everything out FIRST. Make sure everything is right side up and that the holes for the ladder are where you want them or you'll be taking it apart and reassembling them (just trust me - and I read and followed the directions!) The instructions are only diagrams - no words. So they don't mention making sure the bolt holes are on the correct side. I know I should have caught that..but I didn't. At that point I gave up and asked God to forgive me for all the curse words said on Easter Sunday! The next day it took me and my husband about another hour to finish the bed and install the mattresses. Another tip.....put the lower mattresses down before installing the last railing and ladder. It will make it easier on you. We put 8 inch mattresses on both bunks and they work perfectly! Now that it's assembled I love it! It will be perfect for our kids and grandkids. Whomever sleeps on top will have to make their own bed.
