Purchased this to replace my lost Bose Soundlink II. And it fits the bill. Compared to the $200 "Bose sound" I could get from the small footprint of the Soundlink, this somewhat larger unit fairly competes with the output - in both tonal sound, bass, and even volume. I am extremely surprised to say the very least. Some unprocessed or off-balanced selections did have a slight tinny sound at times, however I use my Galaxy S8 to play mp3's and the audio features on the device (my phone) allow for great flexibility to get it "tuned in" option that truly makes the speaker sound fantastic.I think it might be by happy accident - or perhaps design purpose, but the clip on the side even though off center happens to be just in the right place so you can hang it vertically and it is nearly right in center for the internal weight distribution of the unit. So great to hang from the center of your tent if you go camping.The outside rubberized surface feels well made - tougher than I expected. And the unit is fairly heavy and also has a solid, super sturdy feel overall. I expect that it is in fact waterproof or at least resistant despite some of the reviews that say otherwise. I don't plan on submerging mine, but I wouldn't be too terribly concerned if it were near water either.The 3D sound button on the unit is interesting, and it works depending on the type of music or sound you run through it. I also is somewhat dependent on the room or space you are in and how the sound(s) bounce / surfaces etc... The easiest explanation for the difference is that it adds an additional layer of 'fullness' and 'depth' to the waveform.So now this is going to work where it is going to be exposed to a very rough environment that is predominately outdoors, and around lots of fine particles, heat, abrasive chemicals, bumps, drops, etc.** A note - it doesn't come with a USB power unit to charge it with - so your charge time will depend on how many amps (usually 1 to 4) your charger puts out... Get at least one that has 3.0 amps output.I will come back here in a fair amount of time - a few months and give an update.

I think the sound and bass level for such a small unit is very impressive! The 3D setting improves sound so much, I have it on all the time. The speaker is heavy, but that is ok because I'm certain most of that weight is the battery (a good thing.) The great sound of course works against the battery. Sounds so good, you want to turn it up louder! That being said, I think battery life is pretty good considering the unit's output (40 watts.) I read some complaint reviews, but I've had no problem with my speaker in any way. The outer shell looks like it will protect it from normal wear and tear. I think water "on" it would not be a problem, but I would not put it "in" water. It would be nice if it could skip more than 1 song at a time or to be able to handle music in different folders, but I am new to the game. Maybe no portable can do this? Overall, a great speaker for the price and quality. I would definitely buy again!7/12/19 UPDATE: Speaker still working great! In my original review, I was unsure how it handled music files on the SD Card in folders - It treats them like there is no folder. Meaning it just plays the music in order whether it's in a folder or not. I also put my speaker up against some of my friend's speakers and so far, this unit has the loudest/best sound/bass. This being said, I have not run into anyone w/ a Bose product yet. Then again, this speaker is not $100-$300. In my opinion, I think this unit can handle the challenge of most any portable speaker and after owning this a while, the only complaint is there is no battery charge level meter/indicator. It does make a sound/tone indicating the battery is almost completely discharged, but this happens when only 1-2 min's playback remains before it shuts off. Would be nice if it gave more advanced notice or had a charge level meter (small green/red LED's.)So, other than the short notice indicating the battery requires recharging and it can only skip 1 song at a time, this speaker ROCKS! I also found a way to use and charge it at the same time (will not work unless using this method.) If the power supply (p/s) is connected to the C jack, the speaker will turn on, but will not play any music. BUT, if you wait until after the power is turned on, playback has begun and THEN connect the p/s, it works no problem! I wanted to connect/use with my laptop audio output and charge the speaker at the same time, but it would not playback the SD card or anything connected thru the 3.5mm jack if the p/s is attached. So, I turn the speaker on and start playback from either the SD card or whatever device is connected to the 3.5mm input and then connect the p/s thru the C port and Wala!!! It continues playing and charges at the same time. Good option to have when watching movies on the laptop with the sound output thru the speaker. When finished watching movies, playing music/videos, etc the speaker is charged and I can take it and go!

Wow, this thing is heavy duty. I'm surprised how loud this speaker can get. A 40watt portable speaker! I hooked this up to an echo dot I got for christmas and it's amazing. This is almost as powerful as my sound bar! The music comes out crisp and clear. It even has some bass which really surprised me. I had this speaker playing for 5 hours straight and it's still going. I'll definitely be taking this to the pool this weekend. Very happy with the purchase.
