Review: For under $20, I have to give these headphones 5 stars - I don't give 5 stars lightly, but this is about as good a deal as I've seen on headphones in a long time. I got these for a little under $16 (as Prime) and they were well worth that price. I do a lot of live sound work and I tried these because our videographer asked me for something low-end to monitor the audio feed I was sending him. He asked for "closed cans" because he wanted to isolate the feed from the ambient sound in the room. The desertcart description doesn't confirm that, so I went to the Sony site, which had them listed as "Closed supra-aural", so I took a shot. About the only negative thing I can say about these is that they are not true closed cup headphones, but with their noise canceling feature, they still served our purpose. The desertcart description is accurate, though lacking some information I would have liked to know up front. The answers to my questions were all pleasant surprises. The nicest surprise is that the 1/8" plug at the end of the cable is a 90-degree molded plug, with the typical crimp protection for molded plugs. If you work with as much live sound as I do, you know that 99% of all cable failures occur at the plug. The wires inside these cables are tiny, and repairing them is a major pain, so a failure usually means ditching the cable (or in this case, the headphones). A 90-degree plug goes a long way towards reducing the chance of failure because it keeps the cord in a low vertical profile to the jack it plugs into, and also reduces the amount of bend when the cable hangs down. The molded cover for the plug is slightly tapered where it meets the actual metal stem, which allowed it to fit securely into my iPhone jack without hitting the case. This is where I've seen many 1/8" plugs fail. Another pleasant surprise was that the cable, which is just under 4 ft long, has a nice, thick jacket, which can also be helpful in prolonging the life of the internal wires. The actual headphones were quite comfortable and light. These are "on the ear" phones because the cups are not large enough to be "over the ear", so if you need that level of isolation, these are not the ones for you. A few reviewers have mentioned the red band to help you quickly identify the right ear, but the headband also has a small "pimple" molded on the left side to help you identify the orientation by touch once you're wearing them. Not a big thing, but a nice touch. Audio quality was fine; especially for under $20. I often find the cheaper phones either over-accentuate bass (unnaturally), or are very bright. These seem to have a very accurate reproduction of the input. I was working with our videographer to chase down an annoying hum in the audio from the camera, and when we finally got it eliminated, he turned to me and said "These sound great. They'll do fine." Because I'm a bit obsessive about audio, I asked to hear, and they did sound just like the audio feed I was sending him. Since they aren't true isolation cups, I had to attribute the clean sound to the quality of the noise cancellation feature, since there was over 80db of ambient sound at the time. Keep in mind, these are less than $20. Some final tidbits for those who care about these things. The plug is a true 1/8" plug and it does NOT come with an adapter for 1/4" jacks. It also appears that the noise cancellation logic struggles when the input signal is low. This may be the "distant" or "muddy" sound cited by some other reviewers. I experienced the same thing with my initial tests before realizing the unit I had plugged into was actually sending a lower signal than normal. When I switched to other devices (including my iPhone) which put out stronger signals, the sound was crisp and clean. Some may also find the 4 ft cord a bit short, which would be true if you need to move around a stationary object while wearing them. For my specific need (in this case) or something like a mobile phone in your pocket, this is ideal because you don't have a lot excess wire swinging around. The unit also apparently has a lithium ion battery, but I did not see an obvious way to change it out. I'm sure this is to power the noise cancellation circuitry, so if it goes out, the cost of the battery will probably be about half the cost of replacing the headphones - and you'll probably have to tear them open to change it. Remember, $15. And finally, a curious statement printed on the back of the package: "If you use the headphones with WALKMAN that has a noise canceling function, the noise canceling function will not work." Curious, since Walkman is a Sony trademark. In conclusion, a great deal (in my opinion), with some nice touches. I've generally been happy with the Sony products I've used, but often found them a bit pricier than similar options. These headphones were a great value for the price.
Review: Good headphones, good price. - I needed new headphones because my last pair (a different brand) started only to play in one ear which many headphones do to me since they take a lot of abuse from me. I've had these headphones since November 2011 and they still work perfectly fine. I use these daily for hours with my laptop and with my Zune during my commute. I find them comfortable and durable. My last headphones were too tight which made my ears sore after a while but these are just tight enough to stay on my head without hurting my ears. The cord is a perfect length. I can keep my zune in my pocket while I listen to music and the cord isn't too long or short. (about 48 inches long) The sound quality is decent, not professional quality obviously but not that horrible flat sound you get with many ear buds. I listen to a lot of music and these are perfect for my needs especially for the price. I turn my zune up to the max volume and the sound still sounds fine. Even if these eventually broke, I'd probably get another pair of these.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good headphones, good price.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Thoughts of the MDRZX100's - 4 years later and still working great, despite USER error in use
*by X***L on March 26, 2014*

Feb 2022 and I ordered a pair of the 100's from a seller and also (not saying 100% that it was trying to scam me ... they may just have gotten mixed up) got "bait and switched" ... 100% a pair of the 110's for double the typical price. I will be returning these ... even if they took 50% off or something ... this is not what I wanted (not trying to totally hate on the ZX110's by the way ..just to be clear Also despite getting these "used like new" ... they were just wrapped in a packing envolope and no box or whatever else that typically should come with these were included. -------------------------- Oct 2021 Update: Well ... my original pair from 2014 FINALLY is having issues enough to have me switch to one of my backup pair of the "100" (last part of model name/number) ... even after all these years, while not perfect and needing some patches where the top band started to crack ... and in a few (3 at least that I can remember, South Florida rain storms ... they were good until today ... the plug has been a little "wobbly" for awhile and now today no matter what I use them with ... only the right channel works ... I am still keeping them (maybe i can repair them when i get some soldering skills or something) but they had a long life and I am happy with them ... Even bought (and tested) another pair or two of the "110's" for when this time came. April 2021 Update: I am not going to say these are the best sound quality headphones ... especially since I always "EQ" what I am listening to ... but these headphones which I have only used one of a few pair I purchased of ... my first pair bought in 2014 ... with my older Sansa Mp3 Players and Rockbox third party firmware with the sound set "just right" ... is "perfect" for my going out and about use-case. I wouldn't want to be wearing $300 Sony MX-3's in triple digit heat indexs here ... and as far as that fix/break that I mentioned that was 100% my own fault ... it's still holding together ... sure they may not be the prettiest now and I did replace the earpads for about $8 in 2019... but these headphones which i am sure i got in a medium FL rainstorm or two if i remember correctly (as soon as it starts raining i try to completely cover them up) ... and both sides are still working fine and sounding good ... only thing I do is every so often i use some izop. alchohol and a q-tip to just wipe off the connector ... sometimes when one side of a pair of headphones starts acting up, it's just a dirty connector, so i like to keep that as clean as I can ... really i am not disappointed I got exra pairs years ago ... sometimes just paying the same amount for them that'd i'd pay for shipping in an order so i figured "why not get something and then have free shipping, for the same $$?" but really the original pair i nearly use daily ... i did NOT expect them to last this long ... I do admit i have a pair of the "110" model that broke within like a year or two, but I got use out of those ones too. June 2018 Update: I cant remember when i wrote this review but I assume that this review was on the first pair (note: I wouldn't have gotten more OR the X110 model that DOES sound better base wise, i admit, if I didn't like these) I bought of these in 2014. I may have already said this further in my review but the part where it folds DID break but that was 1000% MY fault for putting them down hard (I mean HARD... nothing like "lightly throwing them down" ) ... UNLIKE my earbuds that I gave up on years back that seem to go bad with BASIC wear after only a few months (if that long) .. THE PAIR in question even with the mentioned issues, play perfectly fine out of both sides and still sound pretty damn good ... I do admit the 110's sound better base wise but "would i recommend these?" YES I would... for the SAME price, you may as well go with the newer "110's " but if you can "find a deal" on these "100's" ... go for it and pick them up. These headphones are like Skechers sneakers... I have had issues in the past with different brands, but when i find a product/brand I can count on (like Skechers sneakers, OR these headphones) ... I never look at others. To be honest after my mistake of handling them bad, i am SHOCKED that even a few years after THAT happened, they still work no problem. one thing - i saw REALLY good deals on these headphones .. THAT is why I have more than one ... couldn't pass different deals up ----------------------------------------------- I do have to preference my review with "I love music and want my music to sound good, though I am no "Audiophile". I do have standards that if they sound bad, I will say it, though if something doesn't sound "perfect" I am not going to say "These stink!" Pros: Wiring: (note: I can't comment on the wiring inside) The wire from the plug to the headphones themselves seem ALOT thicker than anything I have had before, and when I do run into issues with durability, one of the key issues is the wires splitting somewhere. I cant see inside to judge the quality of the wiring as I said, though I do not think I am going to have that issue I just mentioned with these Sound Quality: The Sound Quality is decent, though its nothing that will blow you away. I think they sound better then the new Sony Earbuds ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007BY3OVU/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) and even if they are not perfect, they sound alot better than those earbuds... it seems that the Base and Treble are more "balanced" with these. Considering the price of these, versus similar headphones that are AT LEAST triple the price... I can live with the sound quality. Thumbs up on Sound Quality Comfort: I will not lie and say these are the most comfortable headphones you will find, though they are not uncomfortable by any means. The earpads are decent though like all of the over the ear headphones I see like this (before I even considered buying these, when I clicked the link, I KNEW what I am about to say and still am happy I bought them anyway). The "covering" that touches your ears, is typical from what I have seen on Wireless headphones some people have hooked up to their TV sets, and to be honest, I have ALWAYS had that stuff "peal" off and fall everywhere, making a mess as well as meaning there is less padding on the ear piece itself. This is something, I am EXPECTING that to happen with these, so if it doesn't "great" .. .if it does, hopefully its not too bad, and I knew that when I decided on purchasing these UPDATE ON COMFORT: Well 2 days and alot of usage after I wrote this review initially, and I have to say these are shocking COMFORTABLE. Even without moving them a little bit, they are not like similar styles of headphones, that hurt my ears or pinched my head .. These (granted that I do not have them set "super tight" but just a "notch" higher so they are not "hugging my head". Even the earpads are not an issue at all and I even enjoy wearing these. Con: The one con , .. .no big deal. would be the typical foam earpads. I (say from wireless over the ear headphones) ALWAYS have PROBLEMS with this foam/ "fake rubber" covering flaking off over time and making a mess. Only time will tell if companies have improved that, though I am expecting to have the same issue. So far, I am very satisfied with these headphones. They are not perfect, but they are very good and while you may find similar "off-brand" ones to these, I have just had bad luck with "non-Sonys" not lasting long at all (as in about a week sometimes)...that effects my decision and if I had to pay a dollar or two more for these, I am HAPPY I did. If you're looking for a low cost, but decent quality headphones and are on the fence with these (considering trying them), I would say "go ahead" and order them.
