Then it started beeping so I sent it back. It has no wires, but makes baseless claims about having a 10 year battery inside. Save yourself! **Q: is this a hardwired unit with the 10 year battery backup or does the power come soley from the battery, with no hardwiring at all?** A: No wiring at all, the battery provides 10 years of power. Once it's dead the battery cannot be replaced and you will have to replace the whole unit. **Q: is this detector the same or a newer version of model no. p1210 ?** A: I can say for sure that when one of my P1210 alarms started going off continuously for no reason after about a year of use, in early 2018 First Alert warranty service replaced it with one of these PR710 models. Whether that's because the P1210 is manufactured specifically for Costco and PR710 is the general model, or because the P1210 has been discontinued and replaced by the PR710, I'm not sure, but my guess is the PR710 is the newer version and First Alert was using Costco to clear out old stock of the P1210.
