Apparently, if you sleep too hard on one side, you can create a chondrodermatitis nodularis helicis (a nodule that is crazy painful). There is little you can do except take the pressure away when you sleep or always sleep on your back. I couldn't do either and my doctor suggested I cut a hole in my pillow. I did but it did little to help. Then my boyfriend suggested this helmet. Prior to ordering, I received an inadvertent blow to the ear, which destroyed one of my hearing aids. Rather than having to spend money on repairs, I searched for and found this headgear. Been wearing it for about a year, 4 classes a week. Wards off the errant shots during drills, and I wear it under my boxing headgear during sparring. I bought the adapt headgear and it fit pretty well.... but the straps keep coming loose when i roll. It is too easy to unstrap them during a roll. Also the velcro hooks snag on gi & clothes & do not feel that great. They should have reversed the velcroAlso the cups create a weird muffle around the ear- you can still hear some things - but it sounds weird. that is one of the things to get used to when using such headgear.
