It came on when it was close to dark, and stayed on at least 4 hours (I fell asleep.) The first purchase was a test, as I plan to use several to light a parking lot, erected on 15' poles. The light's range is about 60' in front, and about 30' on each side. With about three of these, I can illuminate about 2/3rds of our parking lot for night events. I think that it's worth the money. UPDATE: The light stays on ALL NIGHT; from the time it gets dark, until dawn. I'm very impressed with the longevity of the battery's ability to retain the power.
