Not sure how comfortable that would be for a long trip. **Q: Is there a layer of memory foam?** A: No memory foam. It is all air. The outside is a nonslip material that keeps it in position. I find that I don't need to inflate it all the way and it sits more stable and is cushy enough. Bought for travel, it was the perfect size for an airplane seat, and while on the trip it stayed inflated when inflated, and rolled up easily when not. It can pack relatively flat without its bag; other times I used the bag. Now this pillow still stays inflated post-trip, every day, as I continue to use it around the house, moving it from chair to chair. I use it all the time because it relieves a lot of the hip bursitis I get from sitting. It rocks a little side to side, since I don't have it 100% inflated, but I think that's ideal: there's a little motion as I sit. Even while inflated, it's the perfect size to pop into an average tote bag and take to the restaurant or the library, which I increasingly do. It is not perfect but does provide support and I don't feel the pressure of the hard seats. I wish it was a couple of inches wider. It is well made and should last for years.
