It was too technical for me but would good in someone useful’s hand

The instructions for the device are not clear. I had to download a third party application in order touse it.

I saw some people incorrectly saying that the drivers for these didn't work. That isn't quite accurate, but there is a minor driver issue on Linux (that is correctable); for some reason Linux tries to use the NFC driver for this device, instead of the CCID driver -- this error causes it not to work with `pcsc_scan`. The workaround is to temporary uninstall the NFC reader's kernel module. Look up Superuser question #1477349 for instructions on how to do this.Once that's setup, it works fine in `pcsc_scan` -- I used it to read the NFC data from a Nintendo amibo.

The hardware was fine the real problem is the software, drivers and overall support to back it up. I went to the website that had the drivers and did the installment but my computer's still didn't recognize the card reader and even then the instructions to install the drivers are incredibly vague. I couldn't make heads or tails of the instructions. Also on their website for drivers much said ACR122U is end-of-life meaning that you're on your own to make it work. I know some third-party software out there but without any working drivers it's pretty much useless. So now I have no choice but to possibly waste some more time and money to get the NFC cards I want. So unless you know what you doing and have everything you need this card reader is pretty much dead.

The disc is a software development kit rather than software to use the device. Third party software must be used instead and few are available for free or uncomplicated on the PC. If someone is attempting to purchase this device to make NFCTags for Amiibos, it will not work on a PC. The only option is libnfc for raspberry pi or nfc project for Linux. It would be easier to assess the device if there was software available to test it. Those free software out there made the device capable of reading, but there are no writing protocols available. Most of the writing is limited to txt files. I would suggest the company at least direct others on their website to simple software for reading and writing. I only recommend this device if the person already has a software for the device in mind and to look over the the official website to find the types of files that will be compatible for writing before purchasing.Note: I have used the writer and it functions well. The device itself is not the issue but the software available. Once I found a software I could use under a non-PC device, I was able to get it working well, but it is not made for beginners or those not able to dive into research to find the proper software that works with this device.
