Also can set the same table up for CNC Oxy/Fuel cutting as well. Even are options to swap out the plasma cutter for a router to carve and cut wood as well, some have digital hight control to cut uneven material like diamond plate or corrugated steel. And there are options for cutting pipe as well. Many people have made there own and yiu can buy units as small as 2'x2' table cut size or up to 4'x8' and even bigger than that. Some have nesting software that will arrange all of your cuts ro use the least amount of material. And say you have a 4'x4' table but need to cut a 4x8 or bigger sheet of steel, you can cut 4' then slide the steel so it can get the remaining 4 feet and so on. A plasma cutter than can cut 1/2" steel plate cleanly will not cost thst much but I personally would get something that can cut up to 3/4" (or even 7/8" to 1") cleanly. Do not get a machine that can barely do 1/2" or you will be cutting slow and maxing the machine out possibly using more consumables and not having a clean cut (if your looking at lasers I assume you want a clean cut, even by hand using guide steel to run up against I can produce some very clean plasma cuts and CNC can do even better). Dont look at the sever capacity only look at the clean cut capacity and get it slightly oversized. If you want a cleaner cut than CNC plasma can do and any dressing of the material after the cut isnt an option then if you can afford it look into waterjet tables over laser. A benefit of waterjet over plasma is not having thr heat that is associated with cnc plasma or CNC oxy/fuel. I have used hand crank devices that attach to large well casing via a chain and you jabe an adjustable oxy/fuel torch head. You line it up have the large 24" or 30" casing on rollers and you slowly rotate the handle to roll the torch around while rotating the casing in rollers and with this I have seen very impressive smooth and beveled cuts.
