Well, whatever, so I bought a couple strings of these cheap lights to replace it and pretend I was trying to update the look of the dining room too. Installation was a breeze - literally stick and click. The connection to the power at each light location is a bit delicate. If we bump the lights at all they go out, but just bumping them back makes the connection work again. They look great. We shortened the light cables as much as possible so they only hang down about 2 feet. You can't go shorter than that with these. The design is brilliant, very flexible but the materials are cheap plastic.One interesting thing. It comes with three clear plastic shades which work fine, but each of the halogen bulbs has a different color which then shows through the shades. So one bulb has a blueish tint, the next has a yellowish tint, and the last has a redish tint.
