They are thick and soft and look as if they won’t unravel, as the knitted ones inevitably, and irritatingly, do. They also come in several sizes and are clearly meant to offer a complete set of sleeves for all 10 fingers.However, having said all that, for my particular purposes, they are mostly too tight. I do not have large hands, but I do have swollen joints due to arthritis on several fingers and a thumb. Unfortunately, the only finger these fit properly is one little finger, using the larger sizes. My reasoning for declaring these sleeves a poor fit for my other fingers, and especially my thumb, is the following (which I admit might not be an issue for people who only wear them for at most a few hours, and in the daytime, such as for playing sports):I wear finger sleeves overnight, because I have found that, thus used, they totally prevent me from experiencing any joint pain during the day. However, the tightness of these particular sleeves cause too much pressure on the veins in my fingers (except the little one), causing the blood to throb, an uncomfortable sensation that prevents me from falling asleep. I am also concerned that the too-tight fit is not safe.In the way that they function, finger sleeves are analogous to compression, knee-length socks and/or calf sleeves, which I also wear to prevent leg cramps and shin splints from standing and walking all day. If they fit properly, compression socks/sleeves apply a slight, almost massaging pressure to the calves and feet. This slight pressure can increase the flow of blood, which acts to boost the oxygen supply to muscles. This can help prevent blood clots and reduce muscle fatigue. It can also ward off painful muscle cramps (colloquially known as a “charley horse”), by warming the calf muscles. But—and this is key—the socks/sleeves must fit the calves properly according to the circumference of the calves. If too tight, the calf sleeves will cause leg discomfort because they will reduce blood flow rather than increasing it. A clear indicator of this problem is that the legs or feet will start throbbing, tingling or feel numb, which in the common vernacular is described as a limb, “falling asleep.”The goal with a finger sleeve for purposes of arthritis is to keep the joint immobilized, in order to prevent strain, and also to keep the finger warm, to encourage healing blood flow. The latter is very similar to the purpose of a calf sleeve. Unfortunately, if the finger sleeve is too tight, as in the case of a poorly fitted calf sleeve, it does the opposite. It discourages blood flow. If proper blood flow is cut off for too many hours, it can even potentially cause tissue damage.For purposes of my little finger, however, I still consider this set of finger sleeves a good purchase, since some of the sleeves fit it. I had been using a finger split for the past year on that finger, and I like this sleeve better. Mainly because sometimes the splint will catch on the bedding and get pulled off during the night. With this finger sleeve, I have no worries of that kind. It stays firmly in place. In addition, I normally have to replace a finger split at least once a month when it stops fitting properly. With this package containing 10 sleeves, they should last me a very long time and ultimately be much more cost effective than finger splints.By the way, these finger sleeves are washable. I wash them by hand in the same manner that I wash my calf compression sleeves. I use cold water and liquid soap, swish them gently through the water and rinse them well, squeezing them lightly and setting them out on a towel to air dry. I play the drums and my fingers hurt more and more as I am getting older (possibly arthritis), especially when I play hand drums. I was using bandages etc, which are time-consuming to put on and can only use once. So, I thought this might be an option.I think finger slevees are overall a great idea. Very easy to use, and they do ease the pain at my finger joints. They are too thick to use with a stick, you will lose control of sticks, unless you are just beating down on the target. They are also a little tight, so you can feel numb after a while, but that tightness is necessary for them to stay in place.I am not sure if they have varying lengths, i.e., if there is a specific one in the set for a specific finger. Sometimes one feels too long on my little finger and I swap them until it feels OK.
