After a few minutes it will stop and say battery fault however the battery will now should a few volts. I repeat this process until the voltage gets high enough and the repair continues, sometimes for 24 hours. When completed the battery starts my 1976 LC and continues to work well with normal use. Note, as a precaution I always do this outside away from the house. I also know that the battery is not internally damaged. **Q: Charger says to connect cables when they are connected** A: This just happened to me too. It's because the charger cannot recognize it as a battery. Your battery is dead dead. It is a built in safety protocol. Fortunately it was my boat battery. I hooked it up to my car with jumpers for 10 minutes. I then i hooked up the charger. The charger immediately recognized the battery and started charging.
