A lot of dents in many of the shanks. One of the things this device can do is help prevent these dents when the mouthpiece is out of the horn and is hit or dropped. Admittedly, this has seldom (if ever) happened to me, but it seemed to be a nice “extra feature” for me. What I mean by that is my main reason for purchasing this tool. For decades I have carried and regularly used some kind of lip balm for when I’m playing my horn. Otherwise I can develop what I refer to as “leather lips” and my ability to play softly is GONE! These lip balms can cause a buildup in the mouthpiece over time. This tool is an excellent way to prevent this buildup or clear any that may have already occurred. May sound disgusting, but it’s my reality. So far, after about two months of regular use, I love this tool for cleaning and storing it inside my mouthpiece shank.
