The pencil itself is wooden like a traditional writing pencil, and the liner is creamy and applies well over chap stick for everyday use. It blends very well into my red and pink lip sticks and looks great under clear or brown gloss. The color itself is not very dark, but that works great for me (I have cool, fair skin tone). One application usually lasts me an evening, though I do like to touch up every now and again. The pencil has not broken on me, though I have not needed to sharpen it yet.
