Each CD contains the entire original album, remastered, alongside non-album bonus tracks. This is the first time that the House of Dolls and Kiss of Life have been remastered. Beggars Banquet. Review: Excellent Package & Value for GLJ Fans!! - I live in the USA and purchased this 5CD box set (along with similar box sets by Fields of the Nephilim and Love and Rockets) via desertcart UK, at a significant savings over the prices offered via the desertcart USA site (where they each were listed at over $50.00 a piece). The voices of the brothers Aston are an acquired taste, and may be offputting to some, but overall, I think most of the music included is top notch and sounds great. Although I already own the 2005 2CD reissues of "Promise", "Immigrant" and "Discover", this package is well worthwhile for inclusion of the original full albums and bonus tracks of "The House of Dolls" and "Kiss of Life". There is a distinct difference in the guitar playing of I.C. Hudson on the 1st two albums (a more slashing, droning approach), and James Stevenson on the latter three albums (a more hard rock guitar style, with some atmospherics), but I like both quite a lot. James' style probably made their sound a bit more accessible to the mainstream, even with those otherworldy voices of Michael and Jay crooning or wailing over the top. The rhythm section does a great job throughout! I credit Beggars Banquet for doing a tremendous job of compiling these classic GLJ albums with great sound, in a very nice package at an affordable price. As others have noted in similar BB box sets, the liner notes are limited to the band, production and song writing credits for each album, so it is a bit sparse in that regard, but the overall package is well worth your time if you're already a fan or just interested in their early/classic band output. This is some of my favorite "alternative" music from my college days.
