It isn't a perfect hold but it does hold rather well. It doesn't hold as good as a clap. But the product overall sucks. The weights shed paint everyone and you get paint dust on your hands whenever you adjust the weights (which is ultra annoying and possibly unhealthy as it makes everything you touch dirty and toxic with paint dust). The handles of mine also suck b/c half of the grip just does not exist. Really the grip on the handle is rough (has grip) on half of it (like how a regular dumbell should be), but then the other half is smooth/not-rough: it has no grip. IMO, spend 20 bucks more at dicks sporting goods for a set of high quality weights **Q: What are the weights for the handle and the collar stars?** A: I have to 60 lbs set and my handle is 3.85lbs including collars.
