I suspect those folks who complain about the smell (and/ or the cost) are using too much. We have a twenty-year-old top loader (not one of those water-saving front loaders), and find that one-half the included measuring cup of Demite and a like amount of liquid detergent (using the hottest permitted water for the bedding) and a second rinse work well to clean the dust mite waste from the bedding, leaving little smell. The little remaining odor from the tea tree oil (one of the active ingredients in the Demite) is not objectionable.

Started using this as an additive when washing bedding because dust mite allergies tend to hit me the worst at night. Those little buggers are everywhere and my sinuses definitely notice it. Since adding this to the laundry routine the bedding feels a lot better for sleeping. Nights have been more comfortable and I’m not waking up as stuffed up.
