Not highly finished (flat or polished) but more than good enough for it's intended purpose.Fairly sharp. Would give it close to 4 and 1/2 if that was an option. The knife is a really fine knife and you can't beat it for the money. I have read a lot of negative about these knives and there seems to be a lack of understanding about these knives but the knife itself is fantastic. I can only add highly positive comments. The knife is heavy duty 1/4 inch steel, said to be D2 but its not marked as to the steel. The knife is razor sharp and the sheath is made by a fine craftsman. I just can't say enough about this knife. Buy one and you will notice the fine craftsmanship.
