I've used it to clear roots from a wooden fence line and make a slot, so I can install a rhizome barrier to keep the neighbor's scrub oak out . On the really large roots I used a sawsall, but on the smaller roots the size of large carrots, it slices right through them. I've used it to find buried irrigation tubing. I've used it dig around fence posts to get a fence section out. It cuts through sod and dirt easier than a regular shovel.
