He has free movement of his arms, legs and he actually needs to tread water to stay above the water. The first day was a bit tricky, as he adjusted to having more support from level 2 to low support level 3. The second day, he was treading water. In a couple months I will slowly start removing the pads or depending on how quickly he develops better swim level. Didn’t work well. **Q: is this the kind with a rubber tube inside?** A: Yes, but not the heavy duty kind of rubber tube. It’s the kind you blow up with your mouth. When I was a kid we had one of these that you had to blow up with a bicycle pump, and it worked great. This one loses air so easily, and the flotation is pretty terrible. Do not recommend. **Q: how much air** A: There are two air chambers that you have to blow up separately. You can fill one, or both, depending on how much buoyancy you need. The actual air tube is not a heavy-duty rubber inner tube like I thought it would be. It does not require an air compressor to inflate. It is similar to the very cheap, little inner tubes you can buy at any super store. **Q: Is the tube rubber or plastic? Previous answers are mixed.** A: It’s a plastic tube with plastic fill valves. It is not a rubber inner tube with a Schrader valve like they were 20 years ago unfortunately. I am teaching her how to swim and for the most part this works ok for that purpose. What drives me crazy is that I can’t get it so it won’t push up into her face. You can only make the belt around their waist so tight and when they’re swimming it slides up and is right under her chin. I keep having to adjust it the whole time we’re in the pool. It drives me crazy.
