The telephone uses power from the telephone line to enable you to make and answer calls using only the handset and dialing keys. **Q: can you record your own voice for this answer machine or do you have to use pre-recorded message provided by mfg.** A: You have a choice of using the automatic announcement or you can make your own by pressing Menu Select. Press it again and select Answering System. Then press ID or DIR to select "Record New" The system will tell you to announce your message, then press 5 when you are done. Then your own announcement will play. To listen to your own announcement again, scroll to "Play Current" and press Menu/Select. You can always change your message or go back to the recorded announcement. Just do things in reverse.
