I had an entire look planned out in my head, and honestly, it came out even better than I anticipated. I cleaned the entire piece, used gorilla wood glue to attach the appliqués to the existing vanity, taped everything off, and painted it with a mix of red and mustard colored chalk paint from this kit. I then rubbed Vaseline in areas I wanted to show distressed wear and painted over that with green from the kit and navy blue chalk paint I bought separately. (I do have formal training and have been painting for years and paint wall murals, so if you are inexperienced, you may not want to use this method.) I then wiped down the piece to remove the areas with the Vaseline and have the red/mustard layer show through. I also sanded the piece in parts that I wanted even more distressing. It turned out great and the appliqués really added another dimension to the piece. I knew I wanted to finish the look using a navy and green mix, and this was really pretty. It’s easy to blend. I kept it patchy, but I love the way it contrasts. Overall, I’m supremely happy with how the piece turned out. Because it’s our master bath, I did use this as a bit of a test for my more intricate plans for our kitchen island, and I’m happy with the results.
