The wide opening makes it easy for her to put on and take them off by herself. There was no smell when I opened them and the color is exactly as pictured. They’re super lightweight and flexible. So far they seem durable and she’s worn them in the rain and mud with no issues. The tread is also good enough that I think they’ll be fine to wear in snow/ice. I could see the wide opening being potentially inconvenient if you pair them with leggings or something thin like that, rain or snow could easily go inside. (If your baby has chunky legs this might not be as much of an issue, my daughter’s legs are very thin.) This isn’t a complaint but just something I’d like to add- the shoes don’t come with any kind of shoe box which was kind of unexpected.
