We ordered a 10x14 rug but when it came, the measurements showed the rug was slightly less than that. I had to cut a good deal off the rug pad.However, I cut the pad right to the edge of the rug and you could see the rug sitting on top of the pad. It bothered me so I tried to trim just a little more. Then started to add some rug tape. Standing back I could then see pieces of rug tape and still parts of the pad. It was looking sloppy!Finally, I took a full inch off the pad and used long strips of rug tape along the edges of the rug and now the rug looks perfect. (I googled it and read the pad should be 1-4” shorter than the rug.)Moral of the story, trim enough of this pad so you don’t see it underneath which takes away from the aesthetics! Overall, makes our rug more cushiony and it’s definitely not going anywhere. I’m glad we went with the 1/4 inch because any thicker and the edges would not have laid as flat. Purchased an 8 x 10 that had to be cut to size. Definitely stays in place, no oder upon opening. Elevates the carpet with nice cushion as it's 1/4 inch thick which is plenty.
